Marshall Scholarship

Scholarship Description
The Marshall Scholarship is intended for candidates who have the potential to excel as scholars, as leaders and as contributors to improved UK-US understanding. In doing so, we recognise the value of diversity among applicants and promote equality of opportunity. The selection criteria are divided into three equally weighted categories: Academic Merit; Leadership Potential; and Ambassadorial Potential.

Scholarship Details
Funding available for one to three years of graduate study in the UK
Supports master’s and doctoral degrees at any accredited UK university
Five study pathways including one-year or two-year master’s programs, PhD/DPhil programs, or combined master’s and doctoral study
Three main selection criteria, equally weighted: academic merit, leadership potential, and ambassadorial potential
Three years of guaranteed funding for PhD/DPhil candidates, subject to academic progress
Additional funding beyond three years for PhD/DPhil may require external sources
Eligibility Criteria
Must be a U.S. citizen at the time of application
Hold a first undergraduate degree from an accredited four-year U.S. college or university by September 2026
Minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.7 (unrounded)
First undergraduate degree must be awarded after April 2023
Cannot hold or have studied for a degree or equivalent qualification at a UK university
Cannot have taken GCSEs or A Levels in the UK
Application Process

Complete the online application form by the official deadline
Prepare and upload all required academic transcripts
Submit personal statement(s) addressing academic, leadership, and ambassadorial potential
Provide letters of recommendation from faculty or professional references
Select and apply for one of the five eligible study pathways in the UK
Submit the completed application package for review by the selection committee
Applications must be endorsed by the President, Provost, or Academic Dean of the applicant’s undergraduate educational institution. The online application must be submitted and authorised by a designated member of staff at the applicant’s undergraduate educational institution.
