The Going Abroad Scholarship

This scholarship program is sponsored by Scott’s Cheap Flights, Inc. dba Going (“Going”). The Going Abroad Scholarship is open to any citizen and/or resident of the United States (and its territories and possessions) is enrolled full-time at an accredited institution of higher learning. All other entries will be disqualified.

Each student may only submit one entry. If it is determined that a participant has entered with more than one identity, all of the participant’s submissions will be disqualified.

The application period for the Fall semester scholarship starts each year on October 15, at 11:59pm PST. Two winners of the Fall semester scholarship will be notified via email on or before March 31. Scholarship money will be awarded no later than April 15.

The application period for the Spring semester scholarship starts each year on March 15, at 11:59pm PST. Two winners of the Spring semester scholarship will be notified via email on or before October 31. Scholarship money will be awarded no later than November 15.

All portions of the application must be answered and all requested documents must be attached.

Failure to fully answer the video essay question or provide all documentation could deem an application ineligible. Video essay requirements are as follows:

Videos shorter than three minutes or longer than four minutes will NOT be reviewed or considered.
You may edit your video entry but videos will be judged on your response to the prompts and NOT on your editing abilities.
The video essay must be in English.
We strongly encourage you to appear on camera for your video essay; however, if you are unable to appear on camera for any reason, we will accept audio essay submissions.
Video essays must be original and factually accurate, and they must not be in the public domain. Submissions must be original, truthful, unpublished, created solely by the submitting applicant. The submission of false information will result in automatic disqualification. By submitting an essay, each student acknowledges his or her understanding of and compliance with these rules. Going reserves the right to disqualify any entry deemed inappropriate for publication per the company’s discretion.

To be considered for the scholarship, applicants must be planning to study abroad within the next year, and study abroad start date must be after scholarship award date (March 31st for fall study abroad and October 31st for spring study abroad).

Once submitted, no confirmation email will be sent to the applicant and any other requests related to the application will not guarantee a response from Going.

No notification will be sent to non-winning applicants.

All Fall semester scholarship entries must be received no later than March 15, at 11:59pm PST to be eligible for the scholarship.

All Spring semester scholarship entries must be received no later than October 15, at 11:59pm PST to be eligible for the scholarship.

Scholarship awards are non-transferable. Competition is void where prohibited or restricted by law. Winners will be solely responsible for any federal, state or local taxes. Winners must provide an email address to which Going can email a publicity release and a W-9 for tax purposes in order to qualify for receipt of the scholarship award in the amount of $1,500. Once completed, winners must provide a valid PayPal account email address to which the scholarship funds will be sent.

All video essays and all rights to their publication become the property of Going, which may use, edit and excerpt these entries for purposes promotional or otherwise including placing them online without compensation, additional or otherwise. Going reserves the right to use the winners’ names and other basic information in any advertising or promotional materials relating to this scholarship without further notification, permission, or compensation to the winner, except where prohibited by law.

Is this scholarship open to both undergraduate and graduate students?
This scholarship is open to both undergraduate and graduate students who are are enrolled at an accredited higher education program in the United States (and its territories and possessions) and will be studying abroad.
