The Robert Lee Frost-Vince D’Amico Poetry Award: offered each Fall. Established by Vince D’Amico (UST alum) in honor of poet Robert Frost and in remembrance of the occasion of their conversation. Open only to full-time Undergraduate English Majors, Minors, and Creative Writing Minors who will be attending UST full-time.

Supplemental Questions
  1. Writers may submit three poems, up to five pages total. In honor of Frost’s legacy, poetry submitted will be judged based on its response to landscape and a close observation of nature, its richness of imagery, attention to formal elements, use of natural details, symbolic representation, the use of strict or loose iambic meter, overall design, and “sound of sense.” Judges will look for insightful lyrics and disciplined sonnets, poems that include an expression of a moment of epiphany while responding to natural elements. Applicants to this poetry competition are urged to conduct a close reading of representative poems in a variety of verse forms by Robert Frost, including but not limited to the following list: “The Pasture” –an Invitation “The Road Not Taken”—Choices in Life “Mending Wall”—Tradition and Change “The Tuft of Flowers”—Man and Nature Working Together “Mowing”—the Sound of Sense “Spring Pools”—Nature’s Struggle “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening,” –Promises and Obligations “Tree at My Window”—Personification in Nature, Emotion, Calm & Crisis “A Leaf Treader”—Parallel in Cycles “Design”—Fundamental Questions—Accident or Not?” “Nothing Gold Can Stay”—Passing of Beauty and Youth “Nature’s Palate”—Responses to Color in Nature “Eternity”—the eternal “October”—Autumn.
